How to Word Your Wedding Invitation

The wording on your wedding card sets the tone for the celebration. Here is a simple structure you can adapt.
1. Start with the hosts
Begin with who is inviting: the parents, the families, or the couple themselves. Traditional cards often open with a blessing line before the names.
2. Add the invitation line
A short phrase such as “request the pleasure of your company at the wedding of” works well. Modern cards often use something warmer, like “invite you to celebrate”.
3. Names of the couple
Give the names the most space on the card. Decide in advance how you would like them written, with full names or the names you use every day.
4. Date, time and venue
Write the day, date and time clearly, then the venue and town. If there are several events, list each one on its own line.
5. Closing line
End with a warm line, a family note, or contact numbers for guests who need help finding the venue.
Tip: read the final wording aloud and ask someone from each family to check names, dates and spellings before printing. If you would like wording in Tamil or Telugu, tell us when you send your details.
